I produced a video clip with an interview with Ted Schilowtz. Take a look at 'www.youtube.com/chicagoeditor'(note: cut & paste link) (Edited on 2008-07-25 21:28:56 by bhimmelblau) |

I am trying to understand the RED post-production process, as I may be working with RED ONE footage on an upcoming job. I have downloaded codecs and software from the RED site. Someone mentioned to me that there is some sample RED codec footage available for download but I haven't been able to find a link to any. Does anyone know where I can find a short sample file that is in the RED codec? Harriet |

When I hit the Diamond video canister, I'll see whats out there. I'll be ready for something new in 5 years or so. Until then, I'll keep plugging along with my el cheapo Sony Handicam trying to make Gold. |

/ /Synthetick: I just recently cut together a music video shot on the Red ONE and the easiest workflow I figured out was by downloading both REDcine and REDalert. I import the R3D files directly into REDalert and did some initial color correction (which has an amazing amount of control) then when I render I export them out as Apple ProRes files for work in Final Cut on a separate external drive. I set up a 1080 timeline and just cropped from there. Others may do things a lot different but this worked extremely well for me. Regarding the Scarlet, I believe a lot of people underestimate all the hidden costs that might go along with something like this as far as producing material from production to post. The thing looks like a gun. (Edited on 2008-07-29 21:23:43 by extraordinarymachine) |

Yep, it looked great for me until I realised that I'd have to replace all my PC and PremirePro investment with Macs and Final Cut, not to mention the RAID storage I'd need to store the footage... |

This just in: Two days ago RED announced that it's going to scrap the current Scarlet and re-build it, from the bottom up. Details to come. Price is probably going up. Launch date moved ahead. What does this mean? What changed the market? The 5D mk2? Does this mean a Scarlet with interchangeable lenses? :-o |

Supposedly they will be announcing what they are doing with Epic, Scarlet and the DSMC (A DSLRish camera) in the beginning of November. It will be very interesting to hear what the specs, delivery date, and what the price will be. One piece of info that Jim leaked already is that the Scarlet will start up in 2 seconds. (The Red One takes about 60 seconds to start.) |

Looks like interchangeable lenses have been scrapped from the re-design! Not confirmed but all the analysis points to it. If that is so it will be a dissapointment. Then again Jannard says it will be insanely good... Nov 13th will be the day! |
